Doug Wilson debated Christopher Hitchens on the God question.  Collision is the result.  Delicious.    Then,  another edu-babble atrocity.  A 12 year old girl is suspended for bringing an expended "blank" shotgun shell to school.   Sigh.

    COLLISION

That was a good interview. Another of Doug Wilson's and Christopher Hitchens' predecessors were Bob Harrington and atheist Madeleine Murray O'Hare, who traveled around the US in a greyhound in the seventies debating. It was slightly more theatrical with Harrington calling her the "Demon Lady." They suddenly disappeared from public view; rumor was Harrington had had an affair with her, never substantiated and probably begun somewhere in the atheist camp.

In George Bernard Shaw's biographies concerning Fabian Socialist involvement, it's mentioned Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, foundress of the New Age through two books of automatic handwriting (The Secret Doctrine and Isis Unveiled) was also a Fabian Socialist in Shaw's group. Blavatsky brought the Protocols of the Elders of Zion from Russia (though they originated as notes in France)to the British Fabian Socialist group... Isn't it interesting how Marxism still works through the New Age along with socialism today...

Who were other great apologists? Augustine was the first, followed by Thomas Aquinas, then James Cardinal Gibbons in the 19th century with his book which went to over 110 editions called, "The Faith of Our Fathers." Anyone with an inkling to debate an atheist should consult these, along with Josh McDowell's books beginning with the "Evidence that Demands a Verdict" volumes, perfect for homeschoolers....

Trivia: What was G. K. Chesterton's least read book? "Heretics." Why? Probably because of the title. And because the now 40,000 denominations all consider their doctrines infallible and want to avoid collisions...

    Jan,
I asked my highschool students what they thought about the girls suspension for taking a blank shotgun shell to school. They both thought the principle should be suspended for being stupid--further they commented that what are they going to do about the schools track program--they use a blank starting gun at track meets--are they going to suspend track?, suspend the track coach, fire the track coach. An average person reaching into their pocket of common sence would not have made the same decision that this principle did.

    THE LIBERAL PRINCIPAL

It was not that long ago when you could read on a bronze plaque, inside or outside an Iowa school, the following words: "There is an unusual need for the schools to play their part in providing for the common defense. What the schools do may prove in the long run to be more decisive than any other factor in preserving the form of government we cherish." A framed picture of the heroic defender of the Christian Republic Sgt. York may be nearby, silently instructing the class....

The shell incident demonstrates an excellent reason why Iowa needs major gun and ammunition industries for sportsmen and the common defense. With these in place, any school principal holding one of the empty shell cases in his hand, would immediately recognize the product from an industry contributing to the tax base from whence his salary comes. He would be consoled by it, not threatened. To denigrate the shell in any way would be to threaten his salary....

Should nationwide gun control be attempted, guess who will control the guns? Answer: Not the people you can trust.
